Unexpected

We scheduled some sites along the way to our Adventure to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. This was an unexpected opportunity.

I suppose we were both surprised to see each other. It was nearing sunset and I was leaving the Chaco Culture National Historic Park in northwestern New Mexico when I came across a herd of elk. One minute I was photographing architectural ruins and the next minute, this big guy. He was lazing in the grass near the rest of the herd when I stopped and grabbed my camera.
